Biography
Born on August 14 in a small town in Georgia, Johanna Crane grew up a shy and awkward girl, often mistaken to be a boy especially in her teen years. Considered to be an outcast, she spent much of her time reading and studying and after high school was accepted into college and discovered her first passion, psychology.
Later transferring to a small all-girls college in the suburbs of Gotham City, Johanna earned a B.A. in psychology with a minor in philosophy. This is also when she started to become involved with women's rights focusing heavily on body image issues.
After earning her Ph.D in psychology at Gotham State University, she taught for one year prior to being fired for unclear reasons. After this, Miss Crane started work as a therapist, working with women who had relationship and body image problems.
For reasons unknown, Johanna ended up creating an alternate identity, referring to herself as the Scarecrow. As a result of this, she spent many years in and out of Arkham Asylum. During the times she was out of the asylum she started to write, writing her first novel bit by bit, eventually completing it by age 46.
After managing to publish her first novel under a pen name, she was placed in Arkham Asylum for five more years, unable to write any thing while her first book gathered a cult following within the goth subculture.
Finally being released into private care at age 51, Johanna started to write the sequel to her first novel, completing it in a year and a half. Her third novel was the first one published under her real name and she outed herself as the Scarecrow along with its publication.
This caused many problems that Johanna had to face in the next few years, inculding attacks on her sanity, stalkers and distrust. Resilient, she faced all odds and retained her popularity and now lives a half hour away from Gotham City, still writing to this day.
